Dr. Janke Kleynhans obtained her B.Pharm at North-West University in 2011 and is a registered pharmacist in South Africa since 2014. She also completed a M.Sc in Pharmaceutical Chemistry in the field of Drug Design and Development in 2013. She completed her PhD in 2018 with some investigations on drug delivery sytems, in particular in Nuclear Medicine. She completed a short course on quality assurance in the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry after which she started working as a courier pharmacist at Scriptwise Specialised Pharmacy, part of the S.Buys Group. He has attended and given a number of presentations at National and International Pharmacy conferences. Andy Gray B Pharm, MSc (Pharm), FPS, FFIP is a pharmacist whose research interests include policy analysis (in particular, the development and implementation of National Medicines Policies), rational medicines use and the application of antiretroviral therapy in resource-constrained settings. He is a Senior Lecturer in the Division of Pharmacology, Discipline of Pharmaceutical Sciences, School of Health Sciences, University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, South Africa. The Discipline is designated as a WHO Collaborating Centre on Pharmaceutical Policy and Evidence Based Practice. He is also Honorary Senior Scientist: Consultant Pharmacist for the Centre for the AIDS Programme of Research in South Africa (CAPRISA) and non-executive Director of JEMBI Health Systems, a not-for-profit company focused on developing computer/IT-based healthcare solutions for the developing world. Mr Gray is a Visiting Fellow in the Faculty of Pharmacy, Rhodes University, Grahamstown. Mr Gray is a Fellow and Honorary Life Member of the Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa (PSSA) and a Fellow of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP). He is a past President of the South African Association of Hospital and Institutional Pharmacists (SAAHIP) At the FIP, he served as President of the Hospital Pharmacy Section, Chairman of the Board of Pharmaceutical Practice and as a Vice-President. He was appointed to the South African National Essential Medicines List Committee in 2013 and to the South African Medicines Control Council (MCC) in 2015. He has served on the Names and Scheduling Expert Committee of the MCC since 2000 and on its Legal Expert Committee since 2016.

My physiotherapy career started in 1979 in a private practice on the East Rand in Boksburg-North, Germiston and at Sunward Park Hospital.
We moved to Bloemfontein in 2000 and was first appointed at National District Hospital but soon promoted to chief physiotherapist and later Assistant Manager at Universitas Academic Hospital. During this time, I was the project leaders to develop a physiotherapy database for the Free State and also participated in the COHSASA accreditation process. Universitas Hospital was the first Academic Hospital in SA to be accredited internationally and the physiotherapy department scored 100%.

Nadine Butler is an academic pharmacist with over 40 years of experience. She is Professor of Pharmacy Practice at the University of the Western Cape. Her academic qualifications include a Medical Science honours degree in epidemiology and biostatistics, a master’s degree in pharmaceutical microbiology, and a doctorate in social pharmacy (focussing on direct-to-consumer drug advertising). Her teaching concentrates on the psychosocial, behavioural and ethical aspects of pharmacy practice and her research areas include pharmacist role expansion, and the pharmacist/practice setting interface. She has had extensive involvement with the PSSA, in the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and at branch and national executive level.

Gary Black (Dip.Pharm) FPS is the Director of the Cape Western Province Branch of the Pharmaceutical Society of SA, a position he has held since 1995. He previously worked in community pharmacy with limited hospital pharmacy experience.
Gary served on the CWP Branch Committee since 1981 where he held various positions including Chairman in 1992/3. He is the recipient of a Branch Merit Award, the Hymie Barnett Award, and was made a Fellow of the Pharmaceutical Society in 1995.
Post-graduate training includes certificates in Personnel Management and Accounting from the UWC Institute for Small Business, Communication Skills and Clinical Skills for Pharmacists from NWU, and a Diploma in Management by Objectives and Involvement from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology.
He is a member of FIP, the RPS and the Ethics Institute of SA. He has presented on ethics/legal, pharmacy practice topics at CPD events and at the PSSA National Conference. Gary has had a number of articles published in the SA Pharmacy Journal under the title “From my Little Black Book of pharmacy practice”.

Gonçalo Sousa Pinto (Oporto, Portugal, 1975) has a degree in Pharmacy from the University of Oporto in 2000. He is Lead for Practice Development, Advocacy and Data Management at the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP), where he has worked since 2002. At FIP, Gonçalo conducts research on issues related to pharmacy regulation, policy and practice in order to develop publications and advocacy tools to support the work of FIP member organisations at the national level. He authored for FIP the study “Pharmacy: a Global Overview – Workforce, Medicines Distribution, Practice, Regulation and Remuneration. 2015-2017” and co-authored the report “Beating NCDs in the community: the contribution of pharmacists “, published in April 2019. His activity also focuses on the role of pharmacists in improving vaccination coverage around the world.

Amos Masango qualified as a pharmacist at the University of the North (now University of Limpopo, Turfloop Campus) and continued his studies with MSc (Med) in pharmacy at MEDUNSA (now University of Limpopo, Medunsa Campus). Amos Masango has work experience ranging from pharmaceutical manufacturing, public sector and administration. He spent time in industry as a Pharmacist Intern, Production Pharmacist and Consumer Compounding Manager at Bristol Myers Squibb SA. This involved manufacturing of pharmaceuticals, consumables and designing of control systems. He established and served as the first Head of Pharmaceutical Services in Mpumalanga Province. Before working in the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC), he served as a Council Member and Chairperson of the Practice Committee. Amos also has the experience of working as a Senior Manager: Professional Affairs overseeing both Pharmacy Practice, Education and Training matters. He is currently the Registrar/CEO of the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC). He has served in various capacities in the development of policies and standards on the issues affecting the pharmacy profession in South Africa.

Mr. Mabatane Davis Mahlatji is a Manager in the Medicines Evaluation and Research in SAHPRA (formerly Medicines Control Council), South Africa. He is also heading SAHPRA Backlog Clearance Programme. He holds a B.Pharm University of Limpopo, MSc. Pharm University of the Northwest (Potchefstroom) and studied MBL with the University of South Africa. He held positions as hospital and retail pharmacist at several establishments and lecturer at University of Limpopo school of Pharmacy.
He was previously employed at Medicines Control Council (Now SAHPRA) as Chief Regulatory Officer. He was also at some point employed in pharmaceutical industry as regulatory pharmacist. Before he re-joined SAHPRA he was an independent regulatory consultant, pharmaceutical and analytical, and biological expert committee member of the Medicines Control Council. He is currently a focal person for the SADC regional technical working group (Zazibona), WHO collaborative registration initiative, and International Pharmaceuticals Regulator’s Programme (IPRP) (formerly IGDRP and IPRF).

Iain is Executive Vice-President – Healthcare for Imperial Logistics, coordinating strategy, innovation, and solution design across all of Imperial Logistics’ healthcare businesses as well as driving new market expansion.
Iain was responsible for developing the concept of Regional Distribution Centers to support the scale-up of PEPFAR and of the Supply Chain Control Tower that supports the Global Fund’s Pooled Procurement Mechanism for ARVs. Other innovations developed under Iain’s leadership include Unjani Clinics, Warehouse-in-a-Box, Clinic-in-a-Box and SSiH – a mega-distributor model enhancing medicine access across African markets.

Mr Phasha is a Co-Founder of the Black IQ Pharma company which comprises of a group of Community Pharmacies under Kalapeng Pharmacies brand and a Pharmaceutical Wholesaler called PBM Pharmaceuticals. Mr Phasha worked as a Researcher for Health Systems Trust and MEDUNSA. He is a registered Assesor and was an Inspector for the South African Pharmacy Council . He was a chairperson of South African Progressive Pharmacist Association, a Chairperson of board of directors of the Independent Community Pharmacies Association. Currently he is the President of the South African Pharmacy Council.

Sedrick Maasdorp has been appointed as Chief Labour Relations Officer in the PSA’s Provincial Office in Pretoria from 20 May 2019. He previously worked at the PSA as a Labour Relations Officer from 2005 until 2008. He left the PSA to explore other avenues and grow his career in the human resource field to complement his labour relations experience. With his knowledge of representing members in grievances, disciplinary hearings and also negotiating in departmental bargaining councils working for the PSA, Sedrick sought to complement this experience outside the PSA in human resource field. He furthered his career in various government departments, including Agriculture, Education, and Communication in both human resources and labour relations. Sedrick rejoined the PSA as a Human Resource Practitioner on a contract basis in 2018. Given his vast experience, when an opportunity arose in the labour-relations field, Sedrick was promoted to the position of Chief Labour Relations Officer. The PSA believes that Sedrick’s knowledge of the Public Service will be an advantage in leading the labour relations teams and assisting the Provincial Office to deal with the enormous workload of members’ cases.

Prof Patrick Demana is currently Dean of School of Pharmacy at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University. Prior to this, he was a Full Professor and Head of Department of Pharmacy at University of Limpopo (Turfloop). Prof Demana has worked as a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Pharmacy at TUT, and also as a Lecturer at University of Witwatersrand respectively. Apart from academia, he has worked in a pharmaceutical industry such as for Aspen, Sanofi- Aventis, MSD, Ranbaxy, and Alliance Pharmaceuticals. He has published widely in the field of pharmaceutics in reputable international peer-reviewed journals. He previously received an NRF rating as an acknowledged researcher (Y2 research category). He currently sits on the Board of SAHPRA, a post for which he was appointed by the Minister of Health. Prof Demana holds BSc (Hons) (Pharmacy) degree from Liverpool John Moores University (UK), MSc from Rhodes University (RSA), and PhD from University of Otago (NZ). He was a postdoctoral fellow at Emory University (USA).
